MAGNIFICENT ZALABIYAH

Zamalek, located in the heart of Cairo, is a nice area to promenade in the afternoon, thanks to its pedestrian-friendly streets and abundance of beautiful and historic architecture. We recently visited one of these historic sites, Aisha Fahmy Palace: Cairo Beautiful Treasure.

We decided to relax and have a cup of coffee after our journey down Zamalek Street. Our final destination was an outdoor café Batates & Zalabya located directly across from the main road. People sit in outside chairs, some even plan birthday surprises.

The kitchen is open concept; you can also observe immediately how your food orders are being prepared. With a pretty simple menu of Zalabiyah and Batatas, the wide menu board makes it easy for you to choose.

Customers and food delivery are patiently waiting while paying at the checkout, while the staff is busily preparing orders and painting Zalabiyah with variation of sauces.

What is Zalabiyah?

a fritter, doughnut, or yeast dough that has been deep-fried, The wheat flour fritter is created from a semi-thin batter that is placed into heated oil and deep-fried.

Honey or syrup are frequently used as toppings but now lot of variation sauce that you can choose include chocolate. Zalabiyah found in a variety of Middle Eastern and West Asian cuisines

History of Zalabiyah

• The earliest known Zalabiyah recipes come from the 10th century Arabic cookbook Kitab al-Tabikh (In the ancient Al-Baghdadi cookbook of Arab recipes)
• Originally, the batter was poured through a coconut shell.

Review Zalabiyah at Bataes'n Zalabya

Zalabiyah is one of the street food options, and it's ideal for people looking for snacks to share with friends. We placed an order for coffee as well as Zalabiyah.

Coffee was ok but the Zalabiyah is the star as These Middle Eastern sweet fritters have a crispy outside and a delicate, fluffy inside that isn't too oily. 

They're served with a variety of sauces. The flavor of this delectable sauce will spoil your taste buds, and you will notice that premium ingredients are used.

You can choose the Zalabiyah menu with a variety of sauces. They provide Hazelnut Chocolate, Mastic, Dark Chocolate, Cotton candy, Caramel and lotus. 

Our favorite caramel but all guarantee yummy and will never disappointed you
